Somerset ∙ More than half a million people have so far donated organs through the UK’s NHS app, new figures have emerged. Campaigns to encourage people in England to donate organs using the app are reportedly beginning to bear fruit. Following this, more than 7000 people are currently waiting for organ donation. Last year, the number of people who registered for organ donation through the NHS app reached 5,46,825. This is a 22% increase compared to the previous August when 4,48,562 people registered through it.
The new figures came out as part of Organ Donation Week, which was celebrated from September 14 to 18. The new figures also reveal that 98,263 people registered with the NHS app between September 2022 and August 2023. It has been confirmed that organ donation preferences have been managed 4.1 million times through the NHS app.
The NHS app has had more than 32.8 million signups since its launch in December 2018. Last year, 29.1 million repeat prescriptions were ordered through the app. That means nearly five lakh repeat prescriptions are ordered every week. More than 13 million messages from GP surgeries, hospitals and National Services have been delivered to NHS patients through the NHS app.
Figures reveal that 480,000 Covid vaccinations have been booked through the app since November 2022. Eligible patients will reportedly receive flu and Covid vaccination notifications through the app this winter. NHS England’s National Director for Transformation, Dr. Vin Diwakar said.
