Record-breaking Deliveries for Tesla in the First Quarter

The electric car manufacturer delivered 422,875 cars worldwide in the first three months of the year.

The record delivery figure was higher than analysts had expected in advance. They thought Tesla would ship 421,164 cars.

The delivery record comes after Tesla decided in January to cut the prices of several of its models.

Among other things, Tesla lowered the prices of the Model 3 and Model Y, where the latter was reduced from NOK 519,000 to NOK 399,990 – i.e. by almost NOK 120,000, admittedly before various taxes.

According to the Road Traffic Information Council was the Tesla Model Y the best-selling car in Norway in 2022.

Perhaps not surprisingly, it is these two models that the electric car manufacturer sells the most.

Chasing the customers

At the beginning of March, the electric car manufacturer announced new price cuts, at that time on the Model S and Model X, in the USA.

The price cuts are happening because Tesla is chasing customers, and because investors were disappointed with deliveries in the fourth quarter, according to Bloomberg.

The electric car manufacturer also came out on Sunday with figures for how many cars they produced in the first quarter. That figure was also higher than analysts had expected.

Fasit ended at 440,808 cars, higher than the expected 432,513, according to Bloomberg.

New production targets

When Tesla opened the accounting books for the fourth quarter, Elon Musk announced that Tesla aims to produce between 1.8 million and 2 million cars this year.

Investment director Robert Næss at Nordea believes that the price cuts Musk has now set in motion also come as a result of these production targets.

Tesla produces its Model S, X, 3 and Y cars at its factory in Fremont, California. In Shanghai, Tesla produces the Model 3 and Y, while in Austin Texas and in Berlin the electric car giant produces the Model Y.
