Canadian Mike Babcock has been named the new head coach of the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets. About it reported on the league website.
The term of the agreement with the 60-year-old specialist was two years.
Babcock’s last club was the Toronto Maple Leafs, from where he was fired in November 2019, four years before the end of his contract.
Babcock is the only coach in history to be a member of the Triple Gold Club, which includes players and coaches who have won the Olympic Games, the World Championship and the Stanley Cup. The Canadian twice led the national team of his country to victory at the Olympics (2010 and 2014), once – to victory at the World Cup (2004). He won the Stanley Cup with the Detroit Red Wings in 2008.
Since 2021, Columbus has been led by Brad Larsen, who left the team in April after a disastrous season. Columbus finished last, 16th in the Western Conference last season.
