Record-breaking Bayern Munich: 9 goals against Dinamo Zagreb. Real suffers but wins

The premiere was overwhelming Bayern who, dragged by a poker of Kanebecomes the first team to score 9 goals in the Champions League by beating them 9-2 Dinamo Zagreb. Suffering debut for reigning champions Real Madrid in the Champions League. Ancelotti’s men only manage to beat an excellent Stuttgart (3-1) towards the end. Aston Villa (0-3 in Bern against Toung Boys) and Sporting Lisbon (2-0 against Lille) also won and convinced.

BAYERN-DINAMO ZAGABRIA 9-2

Record goal for Bayern at the expense of Dinamo Zagreb. The Bavarians advance in the 19th minute at the end of a twisted move: Gnabry scores on an assist from Musiala but in an irregular position. The VAR, however, does not limit itself to canceling the goal: it reports that before the goal there had been a foul in the area by Gabriel on Pavlovic and then induces the Spanish referee Martinez Manuera to decree the penalty which Kane transform. The VAR must also come into action on the occasion of the 2-0 (33′) to correct an incorrect signal from the linesman who had judged Musiala’s position to be offside, author of the assist with his chest backwards for the great counter-ball left foot from the Guerreiro limit. Dinamo felt the pinch and in the 38th minute took the 3-0 from Olise, who headed a cross from the left by Kimmich. After the break, however, the Croatians had a surge of pride and within 2′ they were back in the game: in the 49th minute they closed the gap with a split touch from Petkovic following a cross from the right by Gabriel, extended into the middle by Pjaca. Then in the 51st minute it was Ogiwara, unmarked in front of the goal by Misic, who slipped Ulreich, who had replaced Neuer, under his legs. Ulreich himself avoids the 3-3 shortly after and cheers up Bayern who re-establishes the distance in the 57th minute with the usual Kane, quick to pick up a short clearance from Nevistic on a left-footed shot from the edge of Kimmich. 3′ pass and, after Kane’s hat-trick was canceled due to offside, another brace arrives, this time from Olise, making his debut in the Champions League, who collects an assist from Musiala, who does well to anticipate the outgoing goalkeeper following Kane’s through ball, and scores to empty door. VAR returns to be the protagonist in the 72nd minute to decree a penalty for Bayern due to a handball by Misic, which the referee missed, following a header by Dier. Kane goes to the spot and makes no mistakes. In the 78th minute the Englishman took the lead by converting another penalty, this time awarded due to a foul by Theophile-Catherine on Davies. In the 85th minute the 8-2 also arrived, this time scored by the substitute Sané with a nice left-footed shot from the edge of the box following a pass from Muller. Finally, in full injury time (92′), Goretzka scored the historic goal to make it 9-2, diving with his head on a cross from the right midfield by Kimmich. In the Champions League, only HJK scored more goals than Bayern in a single match in 2011 (10-0 at Bangor City) but it was the first leg of the preliminary round.

REAL MADRID-STUTTGART 3-1
Il Real he struggles but in the end manages to get the better of Stuttgart. The Germans scare the Bernabeu at the start: they came close to taking the lead twice and hit the crossbar (27′) with Undav. Then, however, they breathed a sigh of relief in the 33rd minute when the VAR corrected the Turkish referee Meler who had awarded the home team the penalty for a non-existent touch Mittelstadt on Rudiger. Real enters the field with another attitude in the second half and after 22″ breaks the deadlock with Mbappé on an assist from the right from Rodrygo. Vinicius missed the second goal (crossbar) in the 58th minute and encouraged Stuttgart who equalized in the 68th minute following a corner with a header from Undav following a cross from the left by Leweling. Real rolled up their sleeves and came back ahead in the 83rd minute with a perfect header Rudiger from a corner from Modric’s left. Stuttgart loses balance and in the 95th minute on the counterattack concedes the 3-1 from the youngster Endrickrecently entered, who surprises Nubel with a strong left-footed shot from outside the area.

YOUNG BOYS-ASTON VILLA 0-3
Everything was easy for Aston Villa in Bern against Young Boys. The English effectively resolved the issue already in the first half. At 27′ it is Tielemans to score the Villans’ first historic goal in the Champions League (the last participation was in 1983 when it was still called the Champions Cup, ed.): he controls a cross from the left from McGinn and enters the goal with a precise diagonal right-footed shot. Already in the 38th minute the score was 0-2, the result of a defensive mix-up by the home team: Camara gave a short ball backwards to Von Ballmoos who brought down Watkins who had anticipated it; it would be a penalty but Ramsey pounces on the ball and scores. In the 43rd minute Watkins himself scored the 0-3 by taking a first shot returned by Zoukrou but the referee, following a report from the VAR, annulled it due to a touch of the arm by the English attacker. The scene repeats itself in the 78th minute when substitute Duran scores with a great left-footed shot from the edge but the Bulgarian Kabakov doesn’t concede the goal due to a touch of his arm at the start of Onana’s move. The same Drunkunmarked by Tielemans, redeems himself in the 86th minute by closing the score with a great slash towards the post from 25 m.

SPORTING LISBON-LILLE 2-0
With a goal in each half, Sporting beat Lille and started off on the right foot in the Champions League. Gyokeres broke the deadlock in the 39th minute with a precise right-footed shot following an assist from the left by Pedro Gonçalves. Lille got nervous and in the 43rd minute were left with 10 men for the second yellow card in 19′ given by Angel Gomes. Sporting thanks them and in the 65th minute secures the victory with an extraordinary right-footed shot under Debast’s 28-metre cross.
