Thousands of Aboriginals and non-Aboriginals attended a historic evening at Innu Nikamu on Saturday evening. The Maten group welcomed several surprise stars, including Zacharie Richard, Florent Vollant, Shauit, Scott-Pien Picard and Émile Bilodeau. He paid tribute to festival founder Philippe Mckenzie and created the largest Makusham in history.
The leader of the group Maten Mathieu Mckenzie animated with energy an exceptional evening for a conquered public who braved the rain.
After proposing several hits, those of the group and its guests, Mathieu Mckenzie welcomed his “friend and friend of the Innu Nation”, David Cataford of Quebec Iron Ore, for an equally historic partnership announcement for Innu Nikamu.

The unannounced presence of singers Shauit and Zacharie Richard, as well as the return for this magical moment of Florent Vollant, Scott-Pien Picard, Matiu and Émile Bilodeau on stage, pleasantly surprised many festival-goers. It was Innu MNA and Minister responsible for the North Shore Kateri C. Jourdain who opened the Makusham dance in the crowd, when the stage was packed with artists singing the Innu national anthem.
The rain stopped in Maliotenam just in time for the fireworks set to native music. In addition to the people gathered at the Innu Nikamu site, hundreds of people viewed the lights from outside up to Route 138.
