Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The match between the Qatari national team and its counterpart Lebanon, which was held on the ground of Lusail Stadium, yesterday, Friday, achieved a record at the opening of the Asian Cup finals, in terms of crowd attendance.
The Asian Football Confederation announced, on Saturday, that the Al-Anabi and Al-Arz match witnessed the presence of 82,490 spectators in the stands, which is the largest attendance in the opening matches of the Yellow Continent Championship in its history.
This number exceeded the previous record for the opening match of the tournament in the 2004 edition, between the Chinese national team and its competitor, Bahrain, when it witnessed the presence of 40,000 spectators at that time.
The owner of the land and the hospitality team, Qatar, defeated the Lebanese team with three unanswered goals, through Almoez Ali and Akram Afif (double), in the first group competitions.
The Qatari capital, Doha, will host the Asian Cup finals for the third time, with the participation of 24 teams.
