A sad record across the Atlantic. The United States has already suffered 23 weather events, each causing more than a billion dollars in damage since the start of the year, a record, an American government agency announced on Monday, September 11.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) began counting these major weather disasters in 1980. The previous record was observed in 2020, with 22 events each causing more than a billion dollars in damage.

According to NOAA, these weather events also caused the deaths of at least 253 people.
The new record “is the latest confirmation of a worsening trend in costly disasters, many of which bear the unmistakable mark of climate change”commented in a press release Rachel Cleetus, of the Union of Concerned Scientists organization.
