Tickets for the Women’s Champions League final sold out next month for the first time in the competition’s modern history, setting a record in terms of attendance in the Netherlands.
Barcelona, who lost the final of last year’s edition, will face Wolfsburg on June 3 in front of more than 34,000 spectators at PSV Eindhoven.
UEFA said on Tuesday that no previous final had been fully sold out since 2009, when the name of the tournament was changed from the Women’s Cup to the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Barcelona won the title in the 2021 edition, while Wolfsburg won the 2013 and 2014 titles, respectively.
“Each team will have more than 4,500 tickets dedicated to their fans – much more than ever before,” said Nadine Kessler, UEFA Women’s Director.
Ticket prices ranged from 16 to 27 dollars.
The match will also set a new record for the number of spectators, breaking the previous record of 30,640 who attended the same stadium in 2019, when the Dutch women’s team hosted its Australian counterpart.
The final match takes place at a time when the Netherlands is seeking to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup in a joint bid with its neighbors Belgium and Germany, where it faces strong competition from Brazil and South Africa, and a joint bid from the United States and Mexico.
The FIFA member associations will choose the winning host country on May 17 next year.
