(Keystone-ATS) The Zurich Film Festival (ZFF) recorded a new attendance record: 140,000 visitors came for this 20th edition. The event hosted several big names in cinema such as Jude Law, Pamela Anderson, Richard Gere and Kate Winslet.

The mix of film screenings, guests, events and a new festival center on Sechseläutenplatz made the 20th edition an “unforgettable” experience, the ZFF announced on Sunday at its conclusion.

This edition shows that the festival enjoys an “excellent international reputation” and a local population which fully supports it, believes artistic director Christian Jungen. According to him, the Zurich event is considered the second largest film festival in the German-speaking world.

The ZFF awarded two main prizes, one in the feature film category, the other in the documentary category. Zambian director Rungano Nyni won first with the comedy “On Becoming a Guinea Fowl”. The second main prize was awarded to Japanese Shiori Ito for the documentary “Black Box Diaries” on the treatment of sexual violence in Japan. Both women received a Golden Eye.
