The previous record was only two days old. A sealed copy of The Legend of Zelda, made for the old Nintendo NES console, went under the hammer on Friday for $870,000. Heritage Auctions, which handled both sales, has not disclosed the identity of the new owners.
Until a few days ago, the video game auction record was $660,000 for a 1986 Super Mario Bros. cartridge.
Old video games have become increasingly popular among collectors in recent years, driving up prices for old-school consoles and cartridges at auctions.
