Riga, August 27, LETA. The reconstruction of the Song Festival Stage in Mežaparks and its authors – Austra Mailītis and Juris Poga Architects ‘Office, received the “Latvian Architecture Grand Prize 2021”, LETA was informed by the Latvian Architects’ Union.
The “Latvian Architecture of the Year Awards” or final jury awards were also won by the “MAD arhitektūras telpa” created by the architectural office NRJA, the reconstruction of the “Roche” office building on Miera Street and its authors SIA “Didrihsons arhitekti”, as well as the reconstruction of Stūķi barn and its author Andra Šmite.
This year, the largest number of votes in the public vote was won by Stūķu küts and its author Šmite, while the award for the blind shop “Velux Latvia” was presented for the reconstruction of the office building on Miera Street and its authors “Didrihsons arhitekti”.
In the first round, all works submitted to the “Latvian Architecture of the Year Award 2021” were judged by a selection jury consisting of architects Andris Kronbergs, Ilze Liepiņa, Evelīna Ozola and Oskars Vāvere, artist Ēriks Božis, writer and poet Inga Gaile, and director Uģis Olte. The selection jury selected 11 nominees for the main prizes.
Among the final nominees were the reconstruction of the Song Festival Stage in Mežaparks, Ogre Central Library, reconstruction of the office building in Miera Street, private house in Jurmala “House 61”, Stūķi barn, Three-slab house, “Villa Dālija”, Lindenholm – first stage of residential building, Rūmene barn construction of exhibition halls and apartments, exposition “It’s not for you! It’s for the building” at the Venice Architecture Biennale, as well as “MAD Architecture Room”.
This year’s final jury consisted of Fensanta Nieto, co-founder of Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos, architect and partner of Nerbau.com, Laurīns Avīžus, co-founder and architect of Arhitekt Must, and architect Alin Architect, Andersen, as well as the chairman of the selection jury of the “Latvian Architecture of the Year Awards” Kronbergs.
“Latvian Architecture of the Year Award” is an annual national architecture competition with the aim of identifying and popularizing the best performances of Latvian architecture and promoting the high-quality development of architecture. The annual award is the largest event of the year in Latvian architecture, recognized as a nationally significant event, and the award itself is the highest award in Latvian architecture. The “Latvian Architecture of the Year Award” is organized by the Latvian Union of Architects in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture.
