Reconstruction of the government. Agreement negotiations
The presidium of the Covenant board met on Thursday. The former deputy prime minister was asked in Polsat News whether the party strengthened him during this meeting, gave special powers or guidelines for negotiations. Gowin admitted that he had received “negotiation guidelines”, which he considered “a natural practice in any democratic and well-run political organization.”
– But there is no need to fortify me. The party is standing behind me all the time – he assured me. He admitted that there had been “controversy” over the postponement of the presidential election. He stated that he did not have any claims against those party colleagues who held a position different from his.
When asked if head of the PiS club and deputy speaker Ryszard Terlecki has the right to say that the PiS coalition partners in the United Right will “lose one ministry”Gowin replied that Terlecki “has the right to speak a private opinion”. – There are no such arrangements (on division of ministries). There is no consent from the Presidium of the Agreement. I came straight from the presidium meeting, where I and other people negotiating the new (coalition) agreement were given clear instructions. These instructions do not provide for the possibility of reducing the number of ministries under the responsibility of the Agreement. I know that Solidarna Polska takes a similar position. All of this will be the subject of negotiation, of grating positions. The United Right camp will not argue about the stools, he said.
Jarosław Gowin will return to the government?
Jarosław Gowin, when asked if he confirmed Polsat News’ findings that the Agreement recommends his return to the government, replied that “this is a bit of a misunderstanding”.
Referring to “future personnel decisions”, the former deputy prime minister announced that “they will be negotiated when we first resolve the coalition discussion on program priorities, and then the discussion on the structure of the government.”
He stressed that in his opinion “the structure of the government should be well thought out”. – Personally, I am in favor of limiting the number of ministries, this may ensure better (government) efficiency – he added.
The politician remarked that the “shape of the structure” of the Council of Ministers “would be” must be in the triangle of Law and Justice, Agreement, and Solidarity Poland “.
When asked if he would like to return to the government, he replied that the coalition partners of his party would be the first to find out about the Alliance’s personnel recommendations. – However, there is probably nothing unnatural in the fact that the party expects (…) my return to the government, but this is not an official position – he stressed. As he added, “I would be an irresponsible politician if I had a yes or no decision at this stage.”
Asked “will the new coalition agreement be very different from the one it is” and whether the agreement “wants something special”, Gowin replied that the coalition agreement “must definitely differ in terms of programming.”
– Because the pandemic has changed a lot, and this is the issue of the structure of the government. So far, there are preliminary tests, there are no decisions – Jarosław Gowin informed.
