The construction of the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris began in 1163 and was symbolically completed in 1260, however, several additions and improvements were added to the structure of the church in the following centuries.
designed in 1859 by the architect Eugène Emmanuel Viollet le Dick (Eugène Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc, 1814-1879) masterpiece – the spire of the church and many added elements of Gothic architecture – was destroyed by the fire of 2019. The part of the building under restoration is still hidden behind a dense volume of construction scaffolding.

According to “The Economist” media, the cathedral will be reopened for viewing in December. It should be noted that Olympic Games participants and visitors, who will flood the French capital at the end of July, will not be given priority for a more timely inspection.
The reconstruction and restoration of the church is one of the most complex and ambitious reconstruction projects that France has ever undertaken in such a historically significant location and building.
In the disaster of 2019, the fire took over the entire wooden lattice that supported the medieval-style roof, then the roof lead sheath completely melted and one of the central symbols of the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, its spire, fell over. Thanks to the craftsmanship of the stonemasons of the 12th and 13th centuries, the nave (longitudinal part of the cathedral enclosed by rows of columns), the altar area and the transepts (several transversal areas crossing the longitudinal area at right angles) remained unscathed in the fire. Likewise, the organ with 8000 staves and the stained glass in the windows of the church.
