Recommendations for preventing seasonal flu

The Ministry of Health reaffirmed, in a press release released on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, the importance of following all the recommendations necessary to prevent the seasonal flu.

The ministry stresses that the seasonal flu started to spread since the end of last November indicating that prevention remains the best means to protect oneself against this disease.

In this context, the ministry calls on citizens to avoid direct contact with sick people and recommends washing your hands with soap and water several times a day and covering your mouth if you cough or sneeze.

It is also recommended to ventilate the houses permanently for at least half an hour and to consult the doctor in case of breathing difficulty or fever even after the use of a medicine.

The ministry recalls that people at risk, in particular those suffering from chronic diseases, pregnant women, the elderly and children can be vaccinated until the end of January 2020.

Regarding children, especially infants, the ministry stressed the need to keep them away from sick people to avoid contagion.

In addition, the ministry of health recommends to take all the necessary precautions when using the traditional means of heating which can involve asphyxiation by carbon dioxide (CO2), “a dangerous gas which has neither color nor odor “.

The asphyxiated person must be placed in an open space while waiting for help to arrive, says the same source, who stresses the need to call civil protection or a doctor if any of the following symptoms appear: migraine, vomiting or feeling relaxed. These symptoms can worsen and suffocation can lead to rapid death.

The ministry recommends maintaining heating equipment and ventilating rooms.
