TRIBUNNEWS.COM – Stroke is the number three deadly disease in the world as well as the number one contributor to disabilities in the world.
The statement was conveyed dr. Gilbert Tangkudung Sp.S (K) FINS, a neurology specialist at Siloam Hospital Manado, recently became a resource person for the Health Talk event which was held online.
According to dr. Gilbert, stroke divided into three types.
1. Ischemic stroke
An ischemic stroke occurs when an artery becomes blocked and cannot supply blood to the brain.
This blockage is caused by blood clots or poor blood flow.
This condition can also be caused by atherosclerosis, or the buildup of fat, cholesterol, and other substances on the walls of the arteries.

Cholesterol plaque builds up on artery walls can block blood flow.
If rupture, the plaque builds up causing acute occlusion of the artery. Two types stroke the most common ischemia are thrombotic and embolic.
A thrombotic stroke occurs when a blood clot forms in one of the arteries that supply blood to the brain.
