Recognizing the Signs of Stroke: What Does Tingling Sensation Indicate? Neurology Specialist Explains

Jakarta

A stroke comes suddenly without causing any detectable symptoms. However, the doctor explained that one of the signs that a stroke is coming is a tingling sensation. What does the tingling in question look like and is it different from ordinary tingling?

Neurology specialist Dr. Sigit Dewanto H, SpN, FINS, FINA said that tingling is a sign of stroke that is often missed, because it is not considered a danger sign. According to him, different from ordinary tingling, tingling due to stroke tends to occur in one part of the body on the right or left as a whole.

“Weakness or tingling sensation in the face, feet, hands. Usually one side of the body, right or left,” he said when met by detikcom in the Central Jakarta area some time ago.

“(The patient asked) ‘I only have tingling in my hands’, that’s not a stroke. But if it affects just one side of the left or right side, it’s most likely a stroke,” said Dr. Sigit further.

In some cases, people who suffer a stroke also experience symptoms in the form of daze or confusion, difficulty speaking, and decreased vision.

Dr Sigit further explained a number of other strokes in the form of:

  • Difficulty walking or experiencing balance problems
  • Spinning dizziness (vertigo)
  • Headache
  • Dizziness or loss of consciousness
