Recognizing the Signs of Alcohol Dependence: Loss of Control, Tolerance, and Increasing Dosage

Loss of control over the dosage of alcohol, tolerance to high doses of alcohol, the constant increase in dosage, as well as the reduction of periods of sobriety indicate the formation of dependence. This was told by the head physician of the AlkoSpas clinic Alexander Polikarpov.

“A person ceases to control the amount of alcohol they drink, which is a sign of alcohol addiction. And the tolerance of a large amount of drinking indicates the emergence of tolerance of organisms to it, ”says the narcologist.

He notedthat reducing the time between taking alcohol is also a signal of the onset of addiction. At the same time, a person constantly begins to look for a reason to drink, even when alone.

“First he drinks on holidays, then on weekends or to relax. A person is looking for a reason to drink and even ceases to seek to involve other people in it, ”says Polikarpov.

He recalled that alcohol is toxic to humans in any quantity. The allowable dose of alcohol per day includes up to 50-60 ml of ethanol. This is equivalent to the volume of 0.5 liters of wine. But it should be understood that there is no so-called safe dose. Any amount of alcohol is addictive and harms the body.
