Recognizing the Signs of a Heart Attack: What You Need to Know

Jakarta

Many people view heart attacks as a terrible scourge. It’s not surprising, because this ‘silent killer’ often comes suddenly without producing any symptoms that are detected first. As a result, patients do not have time to receive appropriate medical treatment as early as possible.

But apart from that, there are actually a number of signs of a heart attack that can be recognized. Apart from chest pain, which many people may already know, another symptom of heart disease is cold hands and feet. Like what?

In some cases, people who suffer from coronary heart disease (CHD) experience symptoms such as pain, numbness, weakness and coldness in the legs or arms. The reason is, there is narrowing of the blood vessels in that part of the body.

In addition, other signs of CHD can include:

  • Chest pain, chest tightness, chest pressure and chest discomfort (angina)
  • Hard to breathe
  • Pain in the neck, jaw, throat, upper abdominal area or back.

“Symptoms of coronary artery disease may be different in men and women,” quoted from the Mayo Clinic website. He also mentioned that each person can experience different signs of a heart attack. The general symptoms of a heart attack in men and women are often different.

“For example, men are more likely to experience chest pain. Women are more likely to experience symptoms other than chest discomfort, such as shortness of breath, nausea, and extreme fatigue.”
