Recognizing Stroke Symptoms: Tingling and Other Warning Signs

Jakarta

Stroke is a dangerous disease with a fairly high fatality. There are several symptoms of stroke that can be recognized as an early prevention effort, namely tingling.

Neurology specialist Dr. Sigit Dewanto, SpN, FINS, FINA revealed that there is a difference between the symptoms of tingling due to stroke and ordinary tingling. According to him, tingling due to stroke only occurs on one side of the body.

“Weakness or tingling in the face, hands and feet, usually on one side first, then right or left,” said Dr. Sigit when met by detikcom in Central Jakarta some time ago.

“If there is tingling in all four, two hands, two feet, it’s not a stroke. Or just tingling in the hands, it’s also not a stroke,” he continued.

Stroke can occur when blood circulation to the brain is interrupted suddenly or unexpectedly. This condition generally occurs due to blocked or ruptured blood vessels in the brain.

Apart from tingling on one side of the body, Dr Sigit said stroke symptoms also include severe pain in the head, vertigo, and even unconsciousness. According to him, the symptoms of a stroke can be different for each person, depending on which part of the brain the stroke attacks.

“Difficulty walking or balance problems. Then vertigo, spinning dizziness can also be a symptom of a stroke. If a patient with vertigo goes to the emergency room, a neurologist is usually called first,” he said.

“Then suddenly the sufferer or patient who has had a stroke is confused, has difficulty speaking, has difficulty seeing,” he concluded.
