Anyone can experience a stroke, Mother. Knowing how to spot the signs of a stroke, especially a mild one, is crucial to preventing serious complications.

A mild stroke is also known as a mini stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA). Reported on the Indonesian Ministry of Health’s website, the main cause of mild strokes is blockage of the blood vessels that supply blood to the brain. This blockage is caused by plaque or air clots in the arteries which cause brain function to be disrupted and trigger signs of a mild stroke.

You need to know, in cases of mild stroke, the blockage is only temporary and blood flow will return to normal. This also makes the signs of a mild stroke slightly different from a stroke.

In mild strokes, symptoms usually last for a few minutes, and will disappear by themselves in a matter of hours. So it is not surprising that the signs of a mild stroke are often not realized by sufferers.

Reported UK NHS, Mild strokes can be caused by several risk factors, such as:

  • Smoking or excessive alcohol consumption
  • High blood pressure (hypertension)
  • Obesity
  • High cholesterol levels
  • Having a type of irregular heartbeat called atrial fibrillation
  • Have diabetes
  • Over 55 years old

The easiest way to see signs of a mild stroke is through the FAST test. This test consists of several indicators, namely:

  • Face: one side of the face droops and makes it difficult for sufferers to smile and move their eyelids.
  • Arms: arms are weak or paralyzed.
  • Speech: slurred or incoherent speech.
  • Time: immediately contact medical personnel so that treatment can be carried out immediately.

Apart from observing changes through the FAST test, mothers can also recognize several other signs of mild stroke. What are the signs?
