What causes Alzheimer’s at a young age?
Experts don’t know what triggers the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. They suspect that two proteins damage and kill nerve cells, namely beta-amyloid and tau protein.
Almost everyone develops these two types of proteins as they age. But those with Alzheimer’s disease develop even more.
At first, these amyloid-beta and tau proteins damage memory areas in the brain. Over time, the protein affects more areas of the brain.
Unfortunately, experts still don’t know why some people develop so much of either type of protein or how these proteins spread and damage the brain.
Having learned that even young people can get Alzheimer’s, it’s good not to underestimate this mental health problem.
