Recognizes Laredo, Texas, rebirth of Puerto Colombia in NL

Monterrey, Nuevo Leon /

The new mayor of Laredo, Texas Víctor Treviño applauded this Sunday the rebirth of Puerto Colombia promoted by the government of Nuevo León.

On the first official visit of the Texan official to Puerto Colombia, Marco González, secretary of Regional Development and Agriculture of Nuevo León, explained to Treviño all the actions with which the state government is consolidating Puerto Colombia as the fastest and safest along the entire border with the United States.

The also head of the Corporation for the Development of the Nuevo León Border Zone (Codefront) showed the Texan mayor the Highway Master Plan, through which all Mexico-United States trade will be linked, via Nuevo León.

He also learned about the comprehensive modernization and expansion of the facilities in Colombia, already underway, and the strengthening of security at the site.

In addition, he highlighted the figures of the National Customs Agency of Mexico which show that the port will soon become the second in revenue collection in all of Mexico.

“The idea here is very important, we don’t want to compete with Nuevo Laredo. We complement each other very well.

“It is a healthy competition, that (the Border Port of Ciudad) Juárez is going to put its batteries in as well, but the important thing is that Colombia, Nuevo Laredo and Laredo, do not slow down… And ‘time is money’, between the faster and more efficient we do everything, the better”, said the director of the corporation.

For his part, Treviño was satisfied with everything he is seeing in Puerto Colombia, above all, because this benefits the interests of the people of Laredo.

“Basically what I am seeing is that they are preparing for the biggest boom that is coming. And in Laredo we care, we are concerned that there is more (international) access. More bridges, more everything including Colombia, Laredo… everything. We need double the amount of access that we have right now.

“So all these jobs (in Nuevo León and Puerto Colombia) are very important to me,” he said.

The mayor of Laredo stressed that with all this, Colombia, Nuevo León, and Laredo Texas will make history.

The meeting was held at the Codefront headquarters, including a tour of all the facilities in Puerto Colombia and a meal on the banks of the Rio Grande, under the international bridge.

Also participating were the General Consul of Mexico in Laredo, Juan Carlos Mendoza; the main representatives in the region of the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Albert Flores, Javier Vázquez and Johny Hernández, and of the Border Patrol, Robert García, Charles Zepeda and Jesús Silerio, among others.
