Influenza is usually simply referred to as the flu, but it is different from the “stomach flu” virus which causes diarrhea and vomiting.
In general, the flu will go away on its own.
But sometimes, influenza and its complications can be deadly.
According to WebMD, people who are at higher risk of developing flu complications include:
Small children under 5 years old, and especially those under 6 months old
- Elderly people (elderly) or adults over 65 years old
- Residents of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities
- Pregnant women and women up to two weeks after delivery
- People with weak immune systems
- People who have chronic diseases, such as asthma, heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, and diabetes
- Very obese people with a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or higher
- Although the annual influenza vaccine is not 100 percent effective at preventing the flu.
But, still, the flu vaccine is still the best defense against the flu.

Flu symptoms to watch out for
