Recognize the signs of cancer from nail changes: What you should be aware of

SUL PEOPLE – Did you find cancer from your nails?

The answer is yes. You may have noticed significant changes in your nails.
These changes can occur in the color or shape of the nails which look unusual. Other nail conditions can also indicate medical problems, for example nails that are easily injured.

It turns out, these changes could be a sign that you have cancer. A recent study found that changes in the nails could be a sign of a serious illness, such as cancer.

Changes in the fingers or toes can be a sign of subungal melanoma, also known as nail bed cancer. Cancer of the nail bed itself is a rare, but highly malignant disease.

In addition to subungual melanoma, the detection of cancer from nails can also indicate other types of cancer in certain parts of the body.

According to the Times of India, researchers from the National Institute of Health (NIH) found that unusual and specific changes in the nails could be a sign of BAP1 tumor predisposition syndrome.

BAP1 tumor predisposition syndrome is a rare congenital disorder that is associated with changes in body parts and tumor risk, especially in the skin, eyes, kidneys and mesothelium in the chest and abdomen.

These findings were also published in the journal JAMA Dermatology and presented at the Society for Investigative Dermatology Annual Meeting.

This study included 47 individuals from 35 families with BAP 1 tumor predisposition syndrome.
