Liputan6.com, Jakarta Milk Biscuit syndrome or syndrome Milk biscuits are often found in children in their infancy. Also referred to as milk and cake disease, this syndrome is not well known and is taken seriously, as its symptoms resonate with minor infections. Cough, runny nose, sore throat, fatigue and constipation are some of the most prominent symptoms of this syndrome.
As reported from TimesofIndia, pMilk and cake disease occurs most frequently in children who consume excess sugar and refined fats. Unhealthy eating patterns, especially late at night can trigger the syndrome. This is not only caused by milk and biscuits, because there are several other types of food that play a role. Soft drinks, sodas, bottled juices, milk, flavored yogurt, ice cream, chocolate, and snack foods that contain sugar are the main culprits.
Cause syndrome Milk biscuits are usually caused by foods that are dairy products or have high levels of preservatives and sugar. When such food is consumed right before bedtime, it can cause problems. When the child sleeps, the acid content caused by these food products in the stomach flows back up from the esophagus and sometimes even down the throat.
Children do not face the heartburn problems that older adults do, which is why they have more frequent colds, chest tightness, coughs or sore throats from milk biscuit syndrome. If your child often complains about such problems and for no apparent reason then this may be one of the causes.
ENT specialist pediatrician, Julie Wei, MD, said that the habit of every family to give milk to children before bedtime actually worsens their digestion.
“Drinking milk before bed will only cause the milk to coagulate and form lumps like yogurt, and it can flow back down the child’s throat. But drinking milk with sweet snacks is a very common nighttime and bedtime routine for American children,” he was quoted as saying. EverydayHealth.
In addition, said Julie, drinking milk before bed also causes excessive sugar intake, causing obesity, followed by high blood pressure and even the risk of diabetes.
