Anyone who uses an app on the go to play Recognizing musicfor example in the shopping center, the supermarket or at a fair, iPhone users can hardly avoid the market leader Shazam. Apple is now giving it an interesting upgrade with iOS 18.
Recognizing music: iOS 18 brings music haptics for Shazam
As part of its major iOS 18 update, Apple implemented a feature that few people expected: Music Haptics. This accessibility feature now lets you feel your songs through vibrations and haptic feedback instead of just hearing them. The whole thing works, among other things, when recognizing music.
In addition to Apple Music and Apple Music Classical services, the well-known app Shazam will also be equipped with the extension, as MacRumors confirmedThe market leader in music recognition software was acquired by Apple in 2018.
Since then, the interoperability between the individual music apps has been gradually expanded. When you discover music via the app, Apple Music trial periods are indicated directly and both apps can be linked directly. The most obvious factor: the new iOS 18 feature works in combination with Shazam and Apple Music, but not with Spotify.
Reading tips: Since the update, small but nice new features have been discovered again and again. Another iOS 18 feature, for example, probably wasn’t on anyone’s radar.
This is Music Haptics
Music Haptics was sea Apple, developed to bring music closer to Apple fans who are particularly hard of hearing or even deaf. But all other users could also enjoy it. The iPhone’s so-called Taptic Engine, a small mechanical device, is used to make the songs played perceptible through vibrations and other small haptic reactions.
By the way, if you don’t want to rely on Shazam but still want to quickly recognize music, you can also go another way in iOS 18. You can start music recognition via the control center without an additional app. To do this, go to “Settings” and “Control Center”. There you tap on the plus sign next to “Music Recognition”. You will then find the corresponding button in your control center.
