The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry drew attention to the statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Makei on the ownership of Crimea. The ministry warned Minsk about irreparable consequences in relations between the countries, if the peninsula is recognized as Russian territory.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine drew attention to the statements of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus about Crimea,” Nikolenko said.
According to him, the Foreign Ministry proceeds from the fact that Belarus officially still supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within the internationally recognized borders.
“Changing the approach of Belarus for de jure recognition of the temporarily occupied Crimea on the territory of Russia will lead to irreparable consequences for the Ukrainian-Belarusian relations,” the press secretary added.
Nikolenko also expressed the hope that Minsk is aware of the issue of Crimea’s ownership and will not take steps that contradict the norms of international law.
