A reckless motorist caused at least three accidents and quite a commotion on Highway 15, on the North Shore of Montreal, late Thursday afternoon.
The driver of a white caravan collided with several vehicles while traveling at high speed on the A15 southbound.
Jimmy Lemieux, a real estate agent from Blainville who witnessed the scene, almost suffered the same fate.
“I looked in my rearview mirror and I saw a white caravan coming at full speed. So, with my reflexes, I turned my steering wheel a little and it narrowly avoided my mirror, maybe by 2.3 or 4 centimeters,” he told TVA Nouvelles.
Once the driver overtook Mr. Lemieux’s vehicle, the white caravan began to zigzag, the witness maintains. The vehicle was pursued by a patrol car.
“In the distance, I saw him hit a first vehicle, a second, a third. And then the policeman turned off his sirens. I don’t know if it was to stop scaring him or to try to catch up with him,” he claims.
“He may have hit around ten vehicles,” adds Mr. Lemieux.
A little further on, Jimmy Lemieux saw the dangerous driver traveling in the opposite direction on the A15 North. The police officer would have done the same and that is how he would have intercepted the caravan and its driver.
The latter was then transported to hospital to treat injuries, said the Sûreté du Québec, which affirmed that no other person was seriously injured.
