The Cuban Telecommunications Company SA (Etecsa) announced a new international recharge special that promises to quintuple the principal balance of those who receive a recharge from abroad.
The promotion will be available to those holders of a Cubacel SIM card who receive the equivalent of between 500 and 1,250 Cuban pesos (CUP) in foreign currencies between April 8 and 13. The offer will also allow users to enjoy “unlimited” Internet, although only during early morning hours.

The state company operates with an exchange rate of 25 CUP for each US dollar (USD), so the cost of making a minimum recharge would be 20 USD, in addition to the commissions charged by international suppliers approved by Etecsa.
Upon receiving the 500 CUP recharge, users will receive 2,500 CUP in their main balance, in addition to “Unlimited” Internet for a period of 30 days from the transaction.
The telecommunications monopoly in Cuba indicates that the unlimited data received with this promotion can be used on 3G and 4G networks, and will be used to navigate nationally and internationally, as long as the page has not been blocked by Etecsa.
For its part, the main balance obtained with the recharge special will be valid for 330 days, and can be used to call inside and outside the Island, purchase bags, packages, and more.
Etecsa points out that there is no limit on the number of recharges that can be made during the promotion, although the balance received cannot exceed the maximum allowed balance of 500,000 CUP.
Finally, the company warns that previous promotions will not extend their validity with this new recharge, and that this promotion cannot be paid in MLC stores or through the Transfermóvil platform.
Users on the Island will be notified via SMS about the recharge received, and will be able to check the status of their balance by dialing 222BON# (222266#), a service that has no cost.
