This night 170 asylum seekers from Ter Apel were transferred to an emergency reception center in Zwolle. The shelter was prepared in the IJsselhallen in a few hours, at the request of the cabinet.

In addition, 100 asylum seekers were transferred to the Zoutkamp special reception site, where 600 asylum seekers now reside according to the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA). They wait there until it is their turn to register in Ter Apel.

In Zwolle, Mayor Peter Sneijders says he is surprised by the arrival of asylum seekers from Ter Apel. The city only received the application from the cabinet this afternoon. “As a result, we as a municipality have not been able to inform the environment in time and take it with us as we normally would,” Sneijders told RTV East. “But Zwolle is a city where we are always ready to offer help to people in need.”

The intention is that asylum seekers will stay in Zwolle for four nights to “catch their breath before starting the asylum procedure”.

The maximum capacity of reception in Zoutkamp is 700 asylum seekers, but the mayor must first give permission for this. “If it is necessary to increase up to 700, this will only happen after an administrative consultation,” said a spokesman for the mayor. RTV North.
