Recent Eruption in Iceland Causes Evacuations and Destruction – Images of the Catastrophe

The last outbreak was in early February. Then 20,000 people had to do without heating for some time because the lava had destroyed pipelines and roads. In January, several houses burned down in the fishing village of Grindavik. That village has now become practically uninhabitable. Most residents of the region were evacuated in time.

Here you can see images of the eruption in January:

The people who had recently returned to Grindavik were ordered to seek safety again. The Blue Lagoon, a tourist attraction with thermal baths, has closed its gates again as before. Air traffic is not experiencing any disruption for the time being.

One of the residents of Grindavík who had to flee from the lava is the Dutchman Ruben. He previously said that he and his girlfriend had to leave immediately because of the danger. They came to the Netherlands for safety: “My wife is pregnant and we want to be in a quiet place where she can give birth. Normally she would have stayed in Iceland for the birth, but we want certainty and that is a home where you are safe. “
