Gasoline and diesel prices at domestic gas stations have fallen for two weeks in a row.
According to Korea National Oil Corporation’s Oil Price Information Service (Opinet) on the 21st, the average selling price of gasoline at gas stations nationwide in the third week of October (15th to 19th) was 1,775.0 won per liter, down 13.3 won from the previous week.
This week’s average gasoline price in Seoul, the most expensive region in Korea, fell 14.0 won to 1,853.2 won per liter, and in Daegu, the lowest price region, it fell 23.2 won to 1,719.3 won.
The selling price of diesel fell 7.0 won to 1,689.3 won.
As of the 21st, the average gasoline price by region was 1,842 won in Seoul, 1,774 won in Gyeonggi, 1,709 won in Daegu, 1,740 won in Busan, and 1,737 won in Gwangju.
The average diesel price was 1,763 won in Seoul, 1,688 won in Gyeonggi, 1,639 won in Daegu, 1,669 won in Busan, and 1,668 won in Gwangju.
Gasoline and diesel prices, which had soared for a while due to the rise in international oil prices, turned downward last week for the first time in 14 weeks.
As the rise in international oil prices has slowed, domestic prices have also taken a ‘take a breather’.
This week, international oil prices rose due to Iran’s demand to stop supplying oil to Israel, heightened tensions in the Middle East, and the U.S. Federal Reserve’s (Fed) policy of further austerity measures.
This week’s average price of Dubai oil, which is the standard for imported crude oil prices, was $91.4 per barrel, up $3.4 from the previous week.
The international gasoline price rose by $1.9 to $94.5, and the international automobile diesel price also rose by $2.9 to $119.5.
The impact of international oil price fluctuations is usually reflected in domestic gas station prices after about two weeks.
An official from the Korea Petroleum Association said, “The rise in international gasoline and diesel prices has caused a price increase,” and predicted, “The prices of domestic products will also rise or remain flat next week.”
