Scientists at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine said they appeared to have made inroads in the treatment and possible prevention of the coronavirus.
The researchers claim to have isolated the ‘smallest biological molecule’ which ‘completely and specifically neutralizes’ the virus that causes the corona virus.

A drug has been developed called Ab8 and is an antibody component that is 10 times smaller than a full-size regular antibody.
Scientists have been encouraged by trials that appear to be “highly effective in preventing and treating” SARS-CoV-2 infection in mice and hamsters.
Importantly, it doesn’t bind to human cells – a good sign that it won’t have any negative side effects in humans.
The drug could be seen as a potential prevention against SARS-CoV-2 according to researchers at UPMC.
‘Ab8 is not only potentially therapeutic for COVID-19, but it can also be used to prevent people from contracting SARS-CoV-2 infection, ‘said co-author John Mellors, head of the Infectious Diseases Division at Pitt and UPMC.
The antibodies of the larger size have worked against other infectious diseases and are well tolerated, giving us hope that this could be an effective treatment for patients with COVID-19 and to protect those who have never contracted infection and are not immune. ”
