The latest incident of brutal stabbing occurred on Friday (4/8) local time. A teacher at a middle school in the city of Daejeon became a victim in this incident.

The teacher was suddenly stabbed. A man was later arrested in connection with the stabbing in Daejeon.

Brutal attacks also occurred on Thursday (3/8) local time. A man crashes his car into a crowd of pedestrians.

The man then got out of the car and stabbed multiple people inside a shopping center in the Seongnam area. The perpetrator was arrested by the police at the scene.

The incident left 14 people injured. Including, two people who are now in critical condition in hospital.

The shopping center where the attack took place is connected to Seohyeon Station. The location is always visited by many train users and people shopping.

Yonhap news agency reported that the suspect in the stabbing on Thursday (3/8) local time was a 22-year-old man surnamed Choi. The man is suspected of having mental health problems.

Investigators said the suspect dropped out of school because he suffered from social phobia and was diagnosed with schizoid personality disorder. The suspect was said to have spoken indistinctly during initial questioning by police and claimed “a certain group of people were following him and trying to kill him”.

“I always tell my children to be careful when they go abroad for fear of armed attacks, but now I’m more afraid of being in South Korea,” Seongnam resident Lee Youngja, 78, told Reuters.

Another local resident, Choi Junho (26), said he was now extra vigilant on his way to work. He said his workplace was near the shopping center where the stabbing occurred.

“It’s terrible. Something like this could happen near me,” he said.
