After a successful performance in the mixed relays, Markéta Davidová hopefully started this year’s first individual race. However, after a clean item lying down, she made two mistakes in the standing position. With her fast run on the fifteen-kilometer course, she kept within striking distance of the top ten competitors for a long time.
However, she missed three more targets at the shooting range in Österdund, and even the sixth fastest running time did not help her good result. “Doubles shouldn’t happen. I tried to shoot for safety and that resulted in unnecessary mistakes. I have to learn to praise myself for the little things, I’m happy with my run. I distributed my forces well, but unfortunately with five mistakes I would have to run five minutes faster , but that’s not in my power,” commented Davidová grumpily on her performance, who ended up in 44th place.
The eighty-second Lucia Charvátová didn’t do well in terms of shooting either, who after the initial clean item lying down scored a total of seven penalty minutes, one from the first item standing up and three each in the remaining stops. Tereza Vinklárková, on the other hand, after three penalty minutes, drove the second half of the endurance race flawlessly and earned the 70th place.
Tereza Voborníková took care of the best Czech position and the only point from the fifteen-kilometer course. She always made a mistake once on the standing item. “The conditions were almost perfect at the shooting range, but one always misses and you don’t even know how. Even though I tried to be careful,” she regretted.
Twenty-three-year-old Voborníková suffered the longest possible race last year on the same track due to freezing weather. That’s why she prepared much better this year. However, he still doesn’t feel confident running. “I was riding better than yesterday, but I still feel like I can’t accelerate. The pace is tepid and I lack ferocity,” she said.
Due to Wednesday’s women’s relay, Jessica Jislová did not start in this year’s first individual. The twenty-nine-year-old native of Jablonec nad Nisou did not feel 100% fit, and the coaches did not want to risk her absence in Wednesday’s important race.
Italian Lisa Vittozzi, defending the small globe in this discipline, took her fourth podium victory in the World Cup. Despite one shooting error, she defended the lead in 44:03.9 by a hundredth ahead of the German biathlete Franziska Preussová, who, as one of the four competitors in Östersund, had a clear run. German Vanessa Voigtová also finished third with a clean sheet in her best career start.
