Another successful day of the Trento Economy Festival is coming to an end. The third day started in the morning with the conference entitled “Energy, Industry, Environment: the strategic triangle of the Mediterranean” in the Falconetto Hall of the Geremia Palace. Among the numerous guests was the Deputy Chair of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy in the European Parliament, Patrizia Toia. The discussion focused on the future of renewable energies, trade logistics and transport systems. Speaking at the Teatro Sociale the same morning on “capitalism in need of reform”, economics Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz warned his audience of the dangers our current system poses – from social inequality to climate change – and also addressed the possible solution, which he described as progressive referred to as capitalism.

At midday, two critical debates took place: one with the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, who spoke at the event “Culture and Economic Development” in the Marangonerie Hall (Buonconsiglio Castle): here the importance of promoting the cultural sector and the role played by the private sector can play a role. The second debate took place in the Depero Hall of the Provincial Building, where the Minister for Parliamentary Relations, Luca Ciriana, together with Arno Kompatscher, President of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, and Maurizio Fugatti, President of the Autonomous Province of Trento, shared their views on the theme “States, autonomies and NPAR” stated. Minister Ciriana addressed the issue of institutional reforms with great frankness: local autonomy must be strengthened in order to create a system to which everyone contributes. President Kompatscher, on the other hand, recalled the long and difficult road to implementing South Tyrolean autonomy. “We are in favor of differentiated autonomy: if managed well, autonomy not only benefits the territory concerned, but also the entire country system. The more freely you let us work in this sense, the more we will be able to contribute”. President Fugatti said: “Some specific tasks need to be brought back to the original competence of the autonomous provinces, as we have already pointed out to the government. This is a special time for Trentino: there are issues such as large carnivores and environmental protection for which we are looking for completely independent management competence”.

The afternoon was primarily dedicated to the education sector with the event “The Italian School Today and Tomorrow” at the Filarmonica, attended by the Minister of Education and Merit Giuseppe Valditare, and with the event “University and Research, Factory of the Future” at the Depero -Hall of the Provincial Building with Anna Maria Bernini, Minister for University and Research. But the economy in the narrower sense was also addressed: Adolfo Urso, Minister for Enterprise and Made in Italy, spoke on the stage of the Teatro Sociale on “Why an industrial policy is necessary”.
