“Recall ‘Ugly Betty’ soap opera? See Ana María Orozco, its representative’s current appearance after 23 years.”

Do you remember the legendary Colombian telenovela Ugly Betty, which was launched on Czech screens at the beginning of the millennium and was a great success? This year marks 23 years since its filming, and we take a look at what the actress of Ugly Betty – Ana María Orozco – looks like today.

When Ugly Betty appeared on television screens in 2000, it was an immediate success, not only in her native Colombia, but also in 15 other countries, including the Czech Republic. It was the Czech creators who motivated this Colombian telenovela to create a remake called Ošklivka Katka, played by actress Kateřina Janečková. A version of Ugly Betty was also released in the US, which was very popular indeed, and its main character, America Ferrera, even won an Emmy Award for her performance.

The paradox is that when Ana María Orozco (49) was filming Ugly Betty, she kind of returned to her childhood years. As a child, she was said to lack self-confidence, wore glasses and was teased by her classmates for her big nose. All this made her not even want to look at herself in the mirror: “Maybe that’s why I managed to empathize with the main character Betty. I experienced it myself,” the actress said at the time.

However, as time went on, the actress Betty aged – and aged beautifully! She has become a beautiful confident woman and a few years ago she even took very bold photos where she was not afraid to show her breasts and her whole figure. The photos show that Ana María Orozco has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of and is an example of that “even an ugly duckling can grow into a beautiful swan!”

Actress Ana María Orozco remained faithful to the series and telenovelas in which she still acts today. Among her latest works are the Spanish series Lost or the series Cochina Envidia, which was filmed last year.
