Recall of Thuringian Knackwurst: health risk from listeria
Listeria is not something to be trifled with. The bacterium Listeria monocytogenes found in the meat can cause the disease listeriosis. This usually presents itself within 14 days with fever and diarrhea. In particular, older people, people with weakened immune systems and pregnant women could develop blood poisoning or meningitis as a result of such an infection. Pregnant women are once again given special emphasis. Even if the mother shows no symptoms, the unborn child could suffer damage.
Just recently, two popular foods were affected by a recall. There was a risk of metal objects coming from twelve Quark products. Almost simultaneously, two manufacturers recalled various milk cartons.
