Contact with grandchildren
In addition to Roxeanne’s, Rachel has also been removed from her grandchildren’s lives. Until about three years ago, Rachel even looked after Roxeanne’s son Fender (5) on fixed days a week. Heartbreaking is an event that Rachel described earlier in Story. She still lived above Roxeanne, saw the little one in the garden and made contact. When his parents saw this, Fender was snatched from Rachel’s eyes and brought inside. ‘And there was really nothing that preceded that, that I know of. The fact that my contact with Fender suddenly ended really made me feel bad for a while. Just because I had him with me so much.’
Then of course there is Rachel’s son André and his son, her grandson, André (6). ‘I’ve seen him for maybe an hour and a half in the last six years. I see the neighborhood children more often. I find that very painful, but I don’t want to let it affect me too much.’
