Reboot of horror classic ‘The Exorcist’ turns out to be (fortunately) a new second part

The successful horror classic The Exorcist from 1973 by director William Friedkin and writer William Peter Blatty is getting a sequel. It was previously believed that a remake was being worked on.

It is Morgan Creek Entertainment that has been working on the new one since 2020 Exorcist-film and director David Gordon Green (Joe, Stronger) was recruited to get the film on the roll. Green is of course also known for the new Halloween-films.

The Exorcist will be a new sequel
In conversation with Total Film, Green gave clarity about the project that is also being made with Blumhouse. “The Exorcist was written. That was one of my pandemic projects. It’s true that it will be a sequel to the original film,” said Green.

“I love all the Exorcist movies. And not only do I like them, I think they’re all part of the mythology I’m working on. It’s not like I’m saying, ‘Pretend The Exorcist 2 never happened,'” Green clarified.

The already published sequels are called Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977), The Exorcist III (1990), Exorcist: The Beginning[/i] (2004) in Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist (2005).
