Although the current situation in hospitals is stable and controllable, the daily work is becoming significantly more difficult for staff to become ill and become contacts.
Dumpis explains that the figures currently available in Covid-19 statistics reflect both the celebration of the anniversary and the fact that omicron affects those who have received their first vaccination.
“This type of virus easily infects vaccinees, especially those who have not received a primary vaccination, and those who are ill, unlike other variants of the virus,” says the infectologist. “So the omicron type infects these two groups very easily, and as we know, these two groups are given more freedom – they go to work and cultural events, which increases the number of cases.”
Dumpis points out that there is currently no idea of a ‘curve’, but unnecessary entertainment or gatherings, especially indoors, should be reconsidered. According to him, schools and jobs should be kept open, but everything else could be suspended for a while.
