It was extremely close that Fanny Östlund was responsible for a huge surprise in the Båstad Open.
And Rebecca Peterson (pictured) did what was expected.
The Nordea Open was played under good conditions on Wednesday.
The tournament reports from the events:
After heavy Swedish losses on Tuesday, it was up to Sweden’s Rebecca Peterson to carry the Swedish flag further in the tournament.
Gracie Min, from the USA, had other plans and took the incredibly even first set to a tie-break where she led but Peterson showed his strength and turned to set-win. Second set, the American did not manage to keep up the pace and the Swede finished comfortably with the numbers 7-6 6-1.
Now the Spaniard Lara Arruabarrena is waiting in the second round on Wednesday.
Despite a difference of more than 400 places in the world rankings, Fanny Östlund was well on her way to a big bang in Båstad, but Anna Kalinskaya eventually became too difficult.
After equalizing to 1-1 in the set, it was a jump that was ignited both by Fanny and the audience in Båstad, but at 4-4 in the third set, the Russian broke and was able to serve the match 62 26 64.
Anna Kalinskaya now has to face the winner between Anna Bondar and Karman Thandi.
