Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – If you want to buy the iPhone 15 this year immediately after launch, you should think about it first. The reason is that many buyers of the iPhone 14, which was released last year, were very disappointed.
The review site PerfectRec published a survey about the satisfaction level of iPhone users. The results show that many iPhone 14 buyers released in 2022 are dissatisfied.
This decline in customer satisfaction is the first experienced by iPhone products since 2012, when Apple released the iPhone 5. According to researchers, there are at least 2 factors contributing to this decline.
First, the iPhone 14 is considered to lack innovation so it doesn’t satisfy user expectations. In fact, the price is more expensive.
In addition, the intense competition from HP manufacturers, which makes Android vendors vying to present high-end specifications, is also seen as the reason for the iPhone 14 being labeled as unsatisfactory.
At the beginning of this year, Apple also reported revenue that decreased 5% year over year (YoY). More specifically, iPhone sales fell 8%.
It seems that the iPhone is starting to be abandoned by Apple product lovers or often called ‘Apple Fanboy’. So what about the fate of the iPhone 15?
The reason the iPhone 15 is not worth buying
Various leaks about the iPhone 15 which will launch this year have not shown any spectacular changes. There’s no folding screen design, no periscope lens, no fast charging, and the body language is more or less the same.
Quoted from DigitalTrends, Friday (9/6/2023), here are some reasons why the iPhone is no longer attractive to buy this year.
iPhone 15 is not a flip phone
Samsung has been targeting the folding screen market segment for 4 years. This year, it is predicted that this design will be more crowded in the market. Chinese manufacturers such as Oppo and Honor have already showcased their folding screen lines.
In fact, cheap HP vendors such as Realme, OnePlus and Vivo have also enlivened this market. However, it seems that it will still take a long time for Apple to join in.
According to leaks, a new folding screen iPhone will be available in 2024. If true, then of course it will be more interesting to buy next year’s iPhone than this year’s.
iPhone ergonomics issues
Apple still maintains a flat design on the sides (flat edges). This design was brought back to the iPhone 12 and is still maintained today.
In fact, the previous iPhone output has changed to a curved edge design that is more comfortable to hold. The curved side design is applied to premium Android phones such as the Galaxy S23 Ultra, Xiaomi 13 Pro and OnePlus 11.
Technology reviewer Prakhar Khanna said that premium Android phones are more concerned with user convenience than iPhones.
“I have an iPhone 12, iPhone 13 Pro Max, and iPhone 14 Pro Max as the main devices. Everything is uncomfortable to hold. For a company like Apple, the design direction needs improvement,” he said.
Android HP camera is much better
So far, the iPhone has always been selling excellence in the aspect of photography. However, the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which is currently Apple’s prima donna, is in fact losing badly to other HP manufacturers.
The Night Mode capability on the iPhone 14 Pro Max is beaten by the Vivo X90 Pro which has a 1-inch jumbo sensor for more light capture. The iPhone 14 Pro Max telephoto lens is inferior to the Galaxy S23 Ultra which accommodates up to 10x optical zoom.
The natural depth of the Xiaomi 13 Pro camera has no rivals, as well as the XPan mode on the Oppo and OnePlus cellphones which brings more perspectives and more qualified wide shots.
The iPhone 14 series is too comfortable with its flagship 48MP camera. Even though it has a ProRAW setting that allows editing flexibility for users, in general this line of cameras has been beaten by Android phones.
iPhone doesn’t have fast charging
The iPhone Pro Max series used to have above average battery life standards. However, when Chinese cellphone manufacturers such as Infinix, Realme and Xiaomi are competing to provide the fastest charging, the iPhone has not yet touched this standard technology.
Realme GT 3 is claimed to be able to fully charge from empty in less than 10 minutes via fast charging. Infinix is not inferior by presenting 260W charging which is claimed to be able to fully charge in 7.5 minutes.
Most recently, Xiaomi showed off its 300W charging capability which can fully charge in just 4 minutes.
iPhone just like that but super expensive
From the start, the iPhone was intended for the premium class. People are willing to pay high prices because the quality is unbeatable and the brand name is trusted.
However, in the midst of intense competition, Android cellphones are trying to climb up and even beat the quality of the iPhone in several sectors.
If Apple continues to only rely on the fame of its brand, it is not impossible that its position will be overtaken by Chinese Android manufacturers. Moreover, analysts predict that Chinese vendors will start exploring the premium market to increase profit margins in 2023.
So, are you still interested in buying an iPhone or switching to an Android phone?
