Merdeka.com – Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin revealed the reason for adding three types of vaccines in the complete routine immunization program, namely pneumococcal conjugate caccine (PCV), rotavirus, and human papillomavirus (HPV).
HPV vaccine to prevent the risk of cervical cancer, PVC to protect the body from infection with pneumococcal bacteria, while rotavirus to prevent vomiting or gastroenteritis. According to Budi, the addition of the three vaccines is to reduce maternal and child mortality.

Budi said that before he served as Minister of Health, the complete routine immunization program only contained 11 types of vaccines. In fact, the problem of maternal and child mortality in Indonesia is still big.
Most maternal deaths are caused by cervical and breast cancer. While most child deaths are caused by diarrhea and pneumonia infections.
“We check that there is a vaccine for the mother, it is a cervical cancer vaccine, (a vaccine) for breast cancer is not yet available. Furthermore, to prevent pneumonia in children by using PCV and diarrhea vaccines, there is a rotavirus vaccine,” he said, quoted from a press release, Sunday (4/24). ).

Expanded throughout Indonesia
HPV vaccination has been carried out for a long time, but only in a number of districts and cities, such as DKI JakartaDI Yogyakarta, City SurabayaManado City and City Makassar. Now, HPV vaccination will be expanded to all over Indonesia.
“We want this (HPV vaccination) to be launched nationally as soon as possible to reduce maternal mortality caused by cervical cancer, because cancer deaths are increasing in Indonesia,” he said.
Director General of Disease Prevention and Control of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, added that the introduction of HPV vaccination in several districts and cities has succeeded in reducing cervical cancer cases.
“That’s why we expanded this year’s direction from the minister to add to 8 provinces. So 4 provinces in Java and Bali, and 3 provinces in Sulawesi (DKI Jakarta Province, DI Yogyakarta, Central Java, East Java, North Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, Gorontalo, and Bali) which is targeted for completion in 2022,” said Maxi.
