The reason for the deadly stabbing in Oosterwolde on Saturday afternoon lies in the relational atmosphere. The victim, a resident of Bovensmilde, is said to have been stabbed by his girlfriend’s ex.

The woman, her boyfriend and the two children she had with her ex were at home in the terraced house on the Gijenham in Oosterwolde. Then the ex-partner came by. Neighbors heard that there was a huge fight. The woman’s friend then fled the house and ran to his van. A neighbor saw him sweating heavily over the wheel. The man drove away to the Esso pumping station on the Venekoterweg. There he stopped. After taking off his coat, he collapsed.
Passers-by warned the emergency services. They could not prevent the man from dying. The ex-partner, who lives in Leeuwarden, is still a fugitive. Mayor Harry Oosterman of Ooststellingwerf speaks of “a great drama for those involved.” He hopes that peace will be preserved in the street. “We are firmly committed to preventing escalations.” He is doing this because revenge is feared.
