Rear-end collision through no fault of our own, economic total…

Hallo,

Someone drove into the trunk of my car. There was only material damage. The police recorded the accident. A letter from the police arrived in the mail today.

My car is 25 years old. A few comparable cars (roadworthy, in “good” condition) are offered on popular portals for 600-800 euros. I assume it is a total economic loss.

I found a similar post/thread, but the value of my vehicle is probably below the de minimis damage limit (?).

It seems clear who caused the accident, and there is an RV (if needed?). I am currently away on holiday and can deal with the matter later.

What is the best way to handle the case?

What can I do if the vehicle is still drivable but is declared a total loss? Can I get compensation from the other party’s insurance company and keep driving? Or would the vehicle have to be scrapped or sold?

I would be grateful for any suggestions!

I apologize for this – for the experts among you – trivial question, but I have never been involved in such an (involuntary) accident with (my) “almost 0 Euro worth” vehicle.

Greetings, Kappa13

PS I can easily have a report drawn up by “my” garage. The opposing insurance company is kept away from the vehicle.

I have the same questionNew answer
