The realme C55 is one of the Chinese manufacturer’s affordable cell phone bets in Brazil, with features that resemble more advanced models. On the other hand, the Galaxy A23 5G seeks to take the fast network to a more modest segment with a set that promises to deliver some more highlights.

Design and connectivity
realme C55
As we are talking about simpler devices here, we have a plastic construction on both the sides and back, with a matte finish. Don’t expect any protection against dust and water from the duo either.
To give a premium touch to the look, the C55 has a lid that imitates the sun’s rays or a rainy night, depending on the color chosen, in addition to the shiny piece to house the cameras, with chrome rings. The A23 relies on curvatures on the edges and sides, in addition to the fact that it also comes with a raised block for the lenses, something that the manufacturer has no longer used in recent models.
Samsung Galaxy A23 5G
These two have a fingerprint reader integrated into the power button. The Chinese has the advantage for having a more compact and lighter body than the Korean, apart from its hole-shaped notch, more modern than the teardrop notch used by the competitor.
The devices provide storage expansion, including a dedicated memory card slot. Connectivity consists of fifth generation Wi-Fi and NFC, for contactless payments. To top it off, realme’s Bluetooth 5.2 is more advanced than the 5.1 version present on the Galaxy.
With a greater number of benefits, the C55 opens the score in the duel.

Both cell phones feature an LCD screen with Full HD+ resolution. The definition does not disappoint, but their brightness level and viewing angle are far from perfect. You won’t find any technology in them to improve streaming reproduction, such as HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, for example.
The realme’s display is 6.72 inches, slightly larger than the Galaxy’s 6.6 inches. However, the Korean model is the only one to have Gorilla Glass 5 protection against scratches, not to mention the 120 Hz refresh rate, which allows for greater fluidity than the 90 Hz provided by the Chinese model.
The A23 makes the point with its smoother display panel.

As
realme and Samsung saved on audio and left only a mono system on these smartphones. This means that you will only find one speaker in them, which ends up compromising the user’s immersive experience in videos and music.
At least, Korean has a slightly higher sound power than Chinese. It is the Galaxy that also has the best quality, thanks to the greater balance between bass, mids and treble.
These manufacturers no longer send headphones in the package. At least the physical connector is present here, to ensure the use of any standard accessory.
The point goes to the A23 in sound.

System
The C55 comes with Android 13 from the factory, while the A23 still comes out of the box with version 12 of the “little robot”, but has already been awarded the most recent edition of the software. Even with this native difference, Samsung’s update policy tends to leave everything the same in terms of useful life.
Both systems flow well for the category, but the higher ratio of the Korean’s display allows for a greater feeling of smoothness. The Galaxy is also the only one of the duo with 5G support.
Realme’s bet among the resources is the Mini Capsule, something similar to the iPhone’s Dynamic Island, with animations integrated into the software, but with functions that should be expanded over time. On the other hand, Samsung offers RAM expansion with part of the storage, in addition to its various customization options.
We have a balance in the advantages between them. So we give it a draw.

Performance
The C55 is equipped with the Helio G88 chip and 8 GB of RAM, compared to the Snapdragon 695 platform and just 4 GB of memory that comes with the A23. Which one has the best speed? Our tests showed an advantage of almost a minute in total time for the Chinese model. The Korean’s low amount of RAM weighed on his multitasking, which directly influenced performance.
The benchmarks present a more favorable scenario for Samsung. It came out on top in all indicators, with a 46% higher score on AnTuTu. The Galaxy’s GPU is also superior and can run more complex games with quality above its rival.
The Chinese are known for being the most efficient multitaskers; and the Korean scores for winning in benchmarks and gaming performance.

Battery
These devices do not deviate from the battery standard seen on the market. In other words, both have a capacity of 5,000 mAh. But does that mean it has the same duration? That’s not what we saw on our standardized tests. realme recorded around 1 hour and 40 minutes more than the Galaxy’s autonomy.
Moving on to charging, the C55 takes just over an hour to complete the process, with its 33 W plug adapter. The A23 needs 1 hour and 42 minutes to return to 100%, as its accessory only delivers 15W of power.
This is an easy point for the realme C55.

Cmera
realme has inserted a photographic set with just two cameras into its affordable cell phone. Unlike Samsung, which left four sensors in its model. The main 64 MP of the C55 and the 50 MP of the A23 take good photos during the day, with colors without excessive saturation and satisfactory sharpness. The Galaxy has a superior dynamic range, but realme’s night mode is more efficient.
Both have a blur sensor of just 2 MP, but Samsung does better than its rival in portrait mode. The 5G smartphone is also the only one to come with an ultrawide lens, which guarantees wider images, and a macro lens, for recording details, even though it is simpler.
The Galaxy takes the point for the most versatile and highest quality set.

The duo’s camcorder makes recordings limited to Full HD resolution. Only realme reaches 60 fps in videos. The Galaxy is no more than half of that, but it responds with optical stabilization, to better deal with shakes, and higher quality sound capture. At least we have an agile focus in both cases.

Their front camera has no more than 8 MP resolution. They take good selfies during the day and suffer from poor sharpness at night. The Galaxy gets more color and portrait mode right, even though neither of them disables HDR. Front-facing footage of both is restricted to Full HD at 30 fps.

Both the realme C55 and the Galaxy A23 5G were officially launched in Brazil, for the same suggested price of R$2,300. In the current market, both appear cheaper, but only the Chinese model can be found for less than R$1,000 in Brazilian retail.
As any savings makes a difference in the consumer’s pocket, realme takes the last point.

We had a balanced confrontation, with a simple victory for Samsung in the final score. Overall, each one showed what they are capable of and what their priorities are in terms of characteristics to attract the consumer. In other words, the purchase choice should be influenced by which one has the best experience in the area you want.
The realme C55 has the most modern, compact and light design; the most up-to-date system with the Mini Capsule differential; the fastest multitasking performance; the battery with better autonomy and shorter recharging time; Full HD recordings at 60 fps; and the lowest price in the current Brazilian market.
On the other hand, the Galaxy A23 5G provides the most fluid screen; the most powerful and balanced sound of the duo; 5G support; the set of rear cameras with better quality photos and an ultrawide sensor; videos accompanied by optical stabilization; and the superior selfies.
