Last autumn, Evelyn Rudi and her husband set up a new cabin in Valdres. Monday night they were told that the front door and all the windows were gone. The police are looking for two different cars in connection with the case.
– It’s just NOT okay in any way, Rudi writes in a post on his own Facebook page.
The couple Evelyn and Jørgen Rudi have owned the cottage plot in Lomen in Valdres since 2000. In 2017, they had a fire in the original cottage on the plot.
– That’s why we tore down the cabin last spring. In September 2020, a new timber box was set up, Rudi tells VG.
–Before winter made its entrance, the couple installed roofs, doors and seven windows in two different sizes in the log cabin. Now, a year later, the door and all the windows have disappeared.
– We got a call from my aunt to my husband, who lives nearby. At first I did not believe her when she said that someone had stolen all our windows, says Rudi.
Right by the main road
According to Rudi, the log cabin is only 20 meters away from the road, and 150 meters away from a busier main road. The windows must have been bolted down. The couple thinks it is incredible that someone may have removed the door and windows without being seen.
– I did not know if I should grin or laugh. We are very happy instead, and both of our sons almost grew up here. It is tragic that people can do such a thing. It’s really bitter.
–According to Rudi, the disappearance must have taken place between 1 and 10 September this year.
– We were there for a trip in June, and then everything was as usual. Several in the family have also been to the cabin afterwards.
She estimates that they have lost values of around 30,000 kroner.
– We are insured, but we live 2.5 hours away, and this year the time has not been enough to work a lot at the cabin. Actually, we were just going to stain and lay roof tiles this fall. Now we have to order new windows and do everything again, to close again for the winter, says Rudi.
–Looking for two cars
Rudi has reported the matter to the police.
– This is a theft of great values, so it is serious, says Kristoffer Magnus Tessem, sheriff in Valdres, to NRK. He says that the screws in which the front door and windows were attached have been removed, and that the police are taking the matter seriously.
Now they are looking for a white Mercedes Vito and a blue-green pickup. These were observed at the cabin three times, and the police request that people who see these cars get in touch.
After Rudi shared the story of the theft on Facebook, the post has been shared almost 4,000 times. She says that she has received a lot of tips afterwards.
– It is to be hoped that it burns so much under the legs of those who have stolen the door and windows, that they dare not do anything but return them to us.
