Nearly two hours of presentation and discussion: X-Plane’s Thomson, Austin and Philipp shared a look at the state of X-Plane 12 with Evan from FSA. In addition to information on flight dynamics and the further development of the ATC function, Austin Meyer also clearly describes what X-Plane 12 is all about: realism before optics. When asked if X-Plane plans to add terrain texture streaming, Austin says yes, but it’s not high on his priority list. Because, as the father of X-Plane further explains: X-Plane would simulate flight, that’s the main focus. He himself rarely looked out on an airplane to say, “Ah, here’s my home.”
The presentation, which was broadcast live on YouTube yesterday, begins with a short round of presentations and a detailed overview of X-Plane’s current development. Especially when it comes to calculating flight characteristics, Austin shows what is important to him by displaying various data. While Austin also takes care of the flight characteristics as a programmer, Philipp Ringler is responsible for everything “on which no virtual air flows”. Philipp shows further improvements to the laminar simulation ATC system.
