Spanish club secured victory at last-placed team’s ground only in stoppage time
Real Sociedad returned to winning ways in the championship in Almería on matchday 13 of La Liga.
The goals only came in the second half, Mikel Oyarzabal scored for the Basques in the 62nd minute, minutes after VAR had disallowed a goal due to a handball to the visitors. The home team’s response came in the 76th minute, with Sergio Arribas tying the game. But already in added time, Carlos Fernandez gave Real Sociedad back the lead through a penalty. A few minutes later, Zubimendi made it 3-1 for the visiting team and secured the three points.
Real Sociedad was coming off a European victory against Benfica that guaranteed them a place in the round of 16 of the Champions League for the first time in 20 years. But for the championship they had not won the last two games: an away draw against Rayo Vallecano and a home defeat against Barcelona in the final minutes.
Luís Maximiano started in goal for the home team and was unable to prevent another defeat. André Silva, who is on loan from RB Leipzig to Real Sociedad, remains injured.
